Beauty: Estee Lauder Ideal Light Brush-on Illuminator

Today I will tell about one of my favorite beauty products - Estee Lauder highlighter and corrector Ideal Brush-on Illuminator. I've been using it already for more than a year and I'm finishing the third one at the moment. I'll tell you what I liked about this concealer in the first place and what disappointed me in the last sample.

This concealer/highlighter comes in 5 different shades: Light, Light Medium, Medium, Medium Deep and Soft Pink.

The one I use and will tell you about is Soft Pink.

Application: Before you use Ideal Light, twist once or twice to saturate the brush. For best results apply after applying your foundation. To highlight apply onto browbone, along bridge of nose, around the eye area and to corners of eyes. To correct apply to darker areas around the eye or cover blemishes and discolorations.

Применение: Перед использованием Ideal Light повернуть донышко один-два раза. Для лучшего нанесения используйте поверх основы. Для акцентирующего эффекта нанести хайлайтер кисточкой на надбровную дугу, вдоль переносицы, вокруг глаз и на уголки глаз. Для маскирующего эффекта наносить на темную область вокруг глаз или нанесите точечно, чтобы скрыть пигментацию и другие дефекты кожи.

My impressions:

The concealer comes in a tube with a pencil-brush tip. Contains 2,2 ml of product. The consumption is very economic - one brush is enough for me for more than half a year.

Concealer doesn't have any smell. The texture is liquid, spreads and mixes well, looking natural on skin. The coverage is transparent to medium. Looks natural even applying several layers. The brush is comfortable to use, but I can't spread the concealer evenly with the brush. It's faster and more effective with finger tips.

I use Soft Pink shade for both highlighting and concealing, as this is the only shade that looks fresh on skin. I will share my opinion on these two application ways separately, as they are very different from each other. I made swatches of other shades on my face, but they looked very yellowish on my skin, especially in eye area, and it's definitely not welcome there. (Eye area is the part of my face, where I need help the most).

Мои впечатления:

Корректор продается в упаковке в виде карандаша-кисточки. Объем 2,2 мл. Расходуется очень экономно, мне одного карандаша хватает больше, чем на пол-года.

Корректор не имеет запаха. Текстура жидкая, хорошо растушевывается на коже, приобретая при этом естественный оттенок. Покрытие от прозрачного до среднего. Выглядит естественно даже при наслаивании. Нанесение кисточкой удобно, но естественно растушевать ею же не удается, я растушевываю пальцами.

Я использую оттенок Soft Pink как для акцентирующего эффекта, так и для маскирующего, т.к. на лице только этот оттенок кажется свежим. Оценивать этот оттенок буду отдельно по каждой из функций ввиду того, что впечатления разные. Другие оттенки я просвотчила на своем лице, и мне они давали желтизну, которая в области глаз совсем не нужна (Именно тут мне ежедневно нужна помощь).

Highlighting effect

For putting accents on my face, I apply highlighter in eye area, on browbow, along bridge of nose, on cheekbones, on philtrum groove above upper lip, on and a bit under the contour of lower lip.

I apply highlighter over the makeup base and tone foundation, sometimes repeat over powder. If applying under the powder, the effect of illuminated face fades a bit away. While, if you apply on top of powder, it doesn't make you face look oily, as one may be fear. It's the opposite - the highlighter brings light to your face.

Around eye area I prefer not to use the base for eye makeup, because the highlighter gathers in fine lines and doesn't spread evenly. Right now I use Artdeco eye makeup base, maybe with other eye base the result will be better.

Для придания акцента наношу корректор на область вокруг глаз, на надбровную дугу, вдоль переносицы, на скулы, в ямку над верхней губой, по и немного за контуром нижней губы.

Наношу поверх основы для макияжа и тонального крема, часто повторяю поверх пудры. Если наносить под пудру, то эффект светящегося лица теряется. Нанося хайлайтер поверх пудры лицо не приобретает жирный блеск, как может показаться. Наоборот, выглядит святящимся изнутри.

В области глаз я предпочитаю не пользоваться основой для глаз, т.к. поверх основы корректор ложится неровно, собирается в мелкие линии. Сейчас у меня основа под макияж для глаз от Artdeco, быть может с другими основами эффект будет другой.

Concealing effect

My most problematic area are the eyes. For several different reasons I just can't get rid of those dark circle under my eyes. I apply Soft Pink concealer in several layers under the eyes and in the corner. Then I use some powder on top. It does look natural and a little bit fresher, but it doesn't fix the problem dramatically, cause the dark circles are still visible.

I also try to conceal some small skin imperfections, like pigmentation spots, but the texture of this concealer is not thick enough to cover them. Thus, I use other, more thick textured concealer to hide imperfections, while Soft Pink - to freshen up the makeup during the day.

Корректирующий эффект

Моей самой проблемной частью является область вокруг глаз. По различным причинам я никак не могу избавиться от кругов под глазами. Soft Pink корректор я наношу плотным слоем под глаза и в уголок глаз. Сверху припудриваю. Выглядит естественно и посвежее, но кардинально не меняет вид, круги предательски видны все равно.

Также пытаюсь корректировать прочие мелкие дефекты кожи, такие как пигментные пятнышки, но плотность для подобного корректирования у этого консилера недостаточная. Все же чаще использую более плотный корректор, а Soft Pink использую для корректировки макияжа в течение дня.

If applied over powder, add light to face. This is especially notable if applied to cheekbones and bridge of nose. Applying along the bridge of nose, makes the nose look thinner and more fine. Applying highlighter to philtrum groove above upper lip and under lower lip, makes the lips look fuller.

With a slight touch of the brush you can correct you makeup during the day or you can add some freshness to your face.

При нанесении поверх пудры лицо словно светится изнутри. Особенно это заметно при нанесении на скулы и на переносицу. Нанося на переносицу, нос тем самым кажется визуально более узким. Нанося хайлайтер в ямку над верхнет губой и по контуру нижней, тем самым увеличиваем визуальный объем губ.

Легким прикосновением кисточки можно незаметно подкорректировать и придать свежести макияжу в течении дня.

If you layer highlighter on top of powder , it's very easy to overdo and then it doesn't look even. With single layer, however, you are out of risk.

Applying concealer in eye area on top of makeup base, the concealer gathers in fine lines and wrinkles. On the upper lid I had issues with spreading out evenly (again with base).

It is practically impossible to conceal imperfections like acne and pigmentation with this brush, due to the translucent texture. If you use powder after that, it looks like you haven't been correcting anything at all, as the powder absorbs all the concealer. Correcting on top of powder I prefer only during the day, when it's more to freshen up the makeup, rather than hiding flaws.

My biggest disappointment with the third pencil-brush I had was the pencil itself. When I close the cap of the pencil, for some mystical reason the bottom comes sometimes off. To get some amount of product into the brush, I sometimes have to twist the bottom 5-6 times. The most irritating is that the concealer doesn't spread over the brush, but comes out at the bottom of the brush between the hair. This can happen even when the pencil lies quietly in my cosmetic bag. I take the brush out and find out how nasty the concealer is spread all over the cap. There are two options: I was either terrible unlucky, or the quality has dropped since I've tried Ideal Light Brush first.

The concealer coming out at the bottom of the brush is not a problem, when I use it for highlighting effect. I spread the concealer with my fingertips then. This becomes a problem, when I need to hide or correct some flaws with light and invisible spot application, because I can't use fingers to have the necessary precise touch.

При наслоении корректора поверх пудры можно очень легко переусердствовать, и хайлайтер тогда ложится неровномерно. При тонком покрытии, однако, этой проблемы не возникает.

При нанесении корректора под глазами поверх основы под макияж, коррекор собирается в морщинки и мелкие линии. Нанося же на верхнее веко, возникают проблемы с равномерной растушевкой поверх основы.

Замаскировать дефекты кожи, такие как пигментные пятна, прыщички и т.д., практически невозможно при помощи данного корректора. Виной тому полупрозрачная текстура. Если же после этого лицо еще и припудрить, то ощущение, что ничего и не корректировалось, т.к. пудра поглощает весь тот малый корректирующий эффект. Корректировать же поверх пудры предпочитаю только в течении дня, когда цель скорее придать свежести лицу, а не скрыть недостатки.

Самым большим моим разочарованием в третьем карандаше была сама упаковка. Закрывая колпачком кисточку, по какой-то загадочной причине иногда отходит дно. Чтобы получить какое-то количество на кисточу, иногда приходиться крутить дно по 5-6 раз. Самое же безобразное это то, что корректор не распределяется равномерно по кисточке, а выползает между ворсом в ее основании. Прозойти это может и тогда, когда карандаш лежит приспокойно в косметичке. Я его достаю, а там все растеклось по колпачку. Тут два варианта: или мне страшно не повезло, или качество падает.

Тот факт, что корректор вытекает в основании не является проблемой, когда я использую карандаш для акцентирования. Тут я по любому растушевываю подушечками пальцев. Когда же нужно что-то подкорректировать и требуется точечное незаметное нанесение, тут уже пальцами не поработаешь.

Final thoughts:
It may seem to you from my review, that Soft Pink Ideal Light Brush has more negative aspects than positive. You just have to look at what you expect from this product. It has a perfect texture and tone for adding accents and light to face. As a result, the face looks glowing from inside out and more refined. For correction this concealer is no good due to the translucent texture. Suits only for makeup correction during the day. I love Ideal Light Brush only as a highlighter.

Из моего обзора может показаться, что Soft Pink Ideal Light Brush имеет больше негативных характеристик, чем позитивных. На самом деле, надо просто смотреть, что вы ожидаете от этого карандаша. Он имеет идеальную текстуру и тон для расставления акцентов на лице. Лицо при этом светится изнутри и кажется более утонченным. Для корректировки не очень пригоден, ввиду полупрозрачного покрытия. Подходит только для легкой корректировки макияжа в течении дня. Я же люблю Ideal Light Brush именно и только как хайлайтер.
